I recently spent some time lacing up a pair of wheels for my single-speed cross bike project. 32-spoke Phil Wood hubs in black, DT Swiss Revolution spokes, brass nipples and H+Son's new TB14 box section 23mm rims, all with a nice black finish. I just need to get a cog and these guys will be ready for some action. The 23mm rim will be great for riding single-speed cross, and when paired with skinny tires in the summer will result in a nice round tire profile, rather than a bulbous shape that happens with pairing 23/25 tires with a 19mm rim. I haven't checked the final weight, but whenever using Phil Wood, the goal isn't exactly to have the lightest wheels around. That said, I think they are a great combination of outright strength, weight, and dependability, and should last pretty much forever.

A few phone photos from lacing and truing.

I worked in bike shops for years and never saw someone use a tensionometer (sp?). Nice work!

Truthfully this is the first time I used it properly, and I'm glad I did. I kept thinking my spokes were more than tight enough but that gauge kept me tensioning a lot longer than I otherwise would have. The wheels feels rock solid now.
